I might be dating myself, but I was that kid who cheered the loudest in elementary school when the teacher wheeled in the TV with a VCR. I'm 100% a TV junkie. I've always been able to explain myself best through pictures. I found a profession where I get to play with lights and cameras all day, then edit it all together to make something beautiful. I certainly don't work in the real world.
I got my start in local news as a Photojournalist. The run-and-gun lifestyle of a photog prepared me for my professional career. I'm great under pressure and time restraints. I know how to do more with less. 5:00 PM will happen every day. Either you're ready, or you're not.
I made the jump from News to Marketing in 2013. There, I found my love of editing. I've been working with Adobe Premiere, After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator, and the Adobe Suite. I learned copywriting and how to write short and long-form commercials. For a brief time, I even created a thirty-minute home show. I listen to clients and try to make their concept into a reality. If a client doesn't know what they want for a production shoot, I can guide them and advise on what I think works best.
In 2016, I moved to my current position at Calhoun Community College as an Audio Video Multimedia Technician. I help produce the college's video production and advertising campaigns. I help teach lab instruction for RTV 153 and 154. I create lesson plans for the year and take the students through the ins and outs of Adobe Premiere and After Effects. One of the biggest assignments is where the student checks out the camera and creates a 30-second commercial from scratch. I help the students write the spot, and they create storyboards and shots sheets and take the camera on location and film. They then come back and voice the spot, add music, color grade, and add b-roll. It's always exciting to see what they come back with. I love what I do. It's all about the students.
Some of my duties consist of storyboarding, copywriting, directing, videography, photography, aerial photography (licensed drone operator), lighting (studio and field), general maintenance, studio operator, logo design and general maintenance. I use Adobe Illustrator and InDesign to help create flyers and graphics for social media, website, and even on billboards.
My philosophy is we're never done learning.
Goals for the future: I'm always on the lookout for the next tutorial. I continue to take them to stay up-to-date and take notes on what I learned. I am enrolled at Athens State University and working to get my master's degree in Career Technical Education with an emphasis in Leadership. I would like to continue teaching classes at the Alabama Center for the Arts, specifically Premiere and After Effects. I would like to use my degree to help Calhoun with new leadership opportunities.
I'm proud to have produced the work you've seen. I invite critiques (that's how we get better). I hope you enjoyed it. Thank you for watching and reading. Check out my resume below.
